About me

Writing about food and science is for my benefit and you are welcome to come along for the ride.
Nutrition is confusing. There are many competing ideas, many variables to think about. With so much information, I need to stop, take my time and write. Writing helps to clarify my thoughts, stimulate my thinking.
By wading through the information, I will try to pass on ideas in a clear and succinct manner so everyone can make sense of it.
My focus is going to be on what is relevant to me and what is happening in the New Zealand (maybe Australia) nutrition scene rather than the latest and greatest.

I have come to nutritional science later in life but I have always been interested in what goes into people’s mouths and what they have in their fridge.  I completed my PhD at Massey University, New Zealand in 2021 where I worked on the REACH study (Researching, Eating, Activity and Cognitive Health).  This study is about healthy ageing and investigated associations between diet, lifestyle and cognitive function in older adults.

Welcome to my blog, my name is Karen.
